Safer space policy

All kinds of discrimination, racism and harassment are strictly forbidden in our events.

Respect your own limits and those of others ¬– both physical and mental.

No means no. Stop your action or change it, if you are asked to.

Do not assume the gender, sexual orientation, functional capacity or other personal attributes.

Be open and listen – do not assume or generalize anyone’s experience.

Respect everyone’s right to define themselves or not.

Give space! Make sure that everyone is heard and can participate in conversation.

Everyone is responsible for making a space safe. If you notice discrimination, racism or harassment, step in.

The Finnish national LGBT organization Seta is a natural partner for Malkus. The association gets allowances from Seta and is entitled to use its facilities. In Seta’s regional organizations like Lahden Seta Ry, there are social groups with the name Malkus that adhere to the principles defined in the Malkus concept, maintained by the association. The association itself has no regular group activity. Check more info about Malkus here.

The board game group focuses on board and card games and is for everyone interested in these games. Anyone is welcome, you do not need to be a member of Lahden Seta or a minority. You are very welcome to bring your own games with you. The group meets about once a month. It would be great if you arrive to the meeting early, because many of the games are quite long and for this reason should be started as soon as possible. You can also come even if you do not want to play, but in that case please respect the players by keeping your voice down and trying not to disturb the players. Lahden Seta ry offers various training modules concerning sexual orientation and gender diversity.

Common themes of these trainings are, for example, introducing Seta, the diversity of sexual orientation and gender, HLBTIQ terminology and encounters with members of a sexual and/or gender minority. The trainings are organized from the viewpoint of equality.

Experience trainers and school visits

Hundreds of elementary students participate in trainings and school visits organized by Lahden Seta  in the Päijät-Häme and Kymenlaakso area. Common themes of these trainings are, for example, introducing Seta, the diversity of sexual orientation and gender, HLBTIQ terminology and encounters with members of a sexual and/or gender minority. The trainings are organized from the viewpoint of equality.

The training takes into consideration the basics of the plan for elementary education (2014) and brings forth contents mentioned in the basics.

The target groups of school visits are, among others, elementary students from the 6th grade onwards, Prometheus and confirmation schools and various youth groups.

We offer a basic training and/or an experience trainer’s visit at a price of 30€/45 minutes ore 60€/70 minutes. Travel expenses will be billed from the client, if the training is arranged outside of the operating area of the public transportation of the Lahti city area.

The trainers are mainly volunteers from the organization, who have been through the trainer course of Seta. Experience trainers are themselves members of a sexual and/or gender minority and speak from their own point of view and have not necessarily had Seta’s trainer education.

Professional and supplementary training

The targets groups for professional and supplementary training are mostly students or professionals in the social, health, and/or educational fields. Professional and supplementary trainings are always tailored to suit the needs of the client.

Professional and supplementary training is provided at the rate of 95€/90 minutes. The price includes the presentation used in the training in a digital format. Travel expenses will be billed from the client, if the training is arranged outside of the operating area of the public transportation of the Lahti city area.

The instructor for professional and supplementary training is Seta’s professional course trainer and service director of Lahden Seta, Mikko Ahtila, Bachelor of Social Services, LTO, MPEAT, NTM. A speech from an experience trainer can also be included.

Greetings from the Lahti Pride 2019 –team! A huge thank you to every participant, volunteer, performer and partner!

The fifth Lahti Pride was celebrated between May 15th and May 26th. Lahti Pride 2019 included 17 different events and had a total of 1023 visitors. The events had a really wide spectrum. To mention only some, we had family yoga, the Pride of being yourself-event for youths, a tattoo day, a vintage evening, a moment of fairy tales, a creative writing workshop, a training workshop for professionals, the decision-makers day coffee and of course the Pride parade itself, our day programming and evening party.

The parade had about 400 participants, which means we broke our participant record once again! The parade and the continuous rainbow-colored flagging from Friday to Sunday gave out a strong message that in Lahti, everyone can be themselves. In addition the whole event made visible the the diversity of sexual orientation, gender and its expression. The event also created chances to take part, cheer and meet.

Lahti Pride was once again fully run by volunteers. In addition to a three-person core group we had about 40 volunteers. The event was also created in cooperation with companies and organization from Lahti. Cooperation is one of the vital resources that make Lahti Pride possible. Thank you once again to all participated!

The first Lahti Pride was celebrated on 2014 and with the exception of one year, the event has provided Lahti with a parade, a marketplace or park festival, trainings, parties art and cultural events and various peer meetings.

The theme of Lahti Pride 2020 is “Love for all ages”, which means the programming attempts to consider people of different ages and dialogue between generations. The event will be held between 18th-24th of May 2020. The parade day is Saturday 23rd of May.
